Newport Lutheran is a companion congregation of a Lutheran Church in Kimala, Tanzania.  We are currently planning a trip back to Kimala in the summer of 2016.

As a companion congregation NLC focuses on five areas, including prayer, communication, scholarships for secondary and post-secondary education, exchange visits, and financial support. Seventy partnerships have been formed with congregations in Iringa Diocese and the St. Paul Area Synod.

A delegation from NLC traveled to Tanzania in January of 2013.  It was a fabulous visit and more was learned about their culture, hopes, dreams, and needs.  The village of Kimala is in need of a better water supply, a laptop computer, more scholarships for their students (NLC is currently sponsoring 5 students), and solar power for the parsonage.  The were in need of bicycles for the evangelists, however NLC had enough funds and were able to provide 3 bikes for them.

Walking shoulder to shoulder (Bega Kwa Bega) with Kimala has helped us all to increase our understanding of God’s work in the world.
